[an error occurred while processing this directive] Koh Mai Phai, also known as Bamboo Island, is a small island between the Krabi coast and Phi Phi. However, there are no bamboo growing here. The English name of Bamboo Island comes from a mistake. The casuarinas growing all along the shore was translated wrongly as bamboo, hence the name Bamboo Island. An even bigger mistake occured in naming nearby Moskito Island, which was inappropriately named as well as wrongly spelled, and the name has stuck, just as it did with Bamboo Island. ![]() Koh Mai Phai, or Bamboo Island, is surrounded by clear waters. Bamboo Island is located northeast of Phi Phi Don. It has a stretch of lovely white sandy beach on the east side. The casuarina grove covers most of the flat land of Bamboo Island that is above the water line. On the horizon to the west of Bamboo Island is the jagged Moskito Island, which has no proper beach, and hence no place to disembark.
