Ob Luang National Park is a national park of Thailand located in Chiang Mai Province. It is about 85 km (53 mi) to the southwest of the city of Chiang Mai.
Ob Luang National Park was established in 1991. It covers an area of 553 sq km (213 sq mi) and comprises forested granite hills at the foot of the mountainous Doi Inthanon National Park. The park is at an elevation of around 200m to 1656m (656ft to 5,433ft). Much of Ob Luang is within the watershed of the Mae Chaem River, a major tributary of the Ping River. The river carves its way through the Ob Luang Gorge, which forms a narrow ravine with the cliffs soaring on both sides.
Ob Luang National Park is a great place for birdwatching. Most of the birds you can find here are of those common in the deciduous forest. There are also prehistoric remains of hunter-gatherers of 4000-5000 years ago. These are under a rocky overhang at a narrow valley. Prehistoric tools such as stone-flaked axes have been discovered here.
How to go to Ob Luang National Park
From Chiang Mai, take Highway 108 towards the town of Hot. Then continue another 18 km (12 mi) until you reach the national park headquarters.Return to National Parks of Thailand
