Sangkhla Buri
|
Sangkhla Buri is a small town in Kanchanaburi Province, on the western edge of Thailand. It has a population of about 36,000, and is the administrative centre of Sangkhla Buri District. Due to its proximity to Myanmar, Sangkhla Buri has a high concentration of Mon and Karen tribespeople. It is a good place to buy Burmese curries and samosas, as well as look for books in the Mon language.
Sangkhla Buri has a lovely lake which is actually a reservoir created by the damming of Khwae Noi River. At the northern shore of the lake is Wat Wangwiwekaram, a Buddhist temple visited by the Burmese and Mon people. There is also a market taking place around the temple.
How to reach Sangkhla Buri
Take bus from Kanchanaburi.
