Thung Yai Naresuan and Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuaries

Thung Yai Naresuan and Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuaries are two of the most important conservation areas in Southeast Asia. They are located in Central Thailand, straddling the provinces of Kanchanaburi, Tak and Uthai Thani.
Together, Thung Yai Naresuan and Huai Kha Khaeng cover an area of 6,000 sq km (2,400 sq miles) of protected forest. It is home to the largest remaining herds of wild elephants in Thailand. Other endangered species found within these two wildlife sanctuaries include clouded leopards, tigers, tapir, Sumatran rhiconeros, gaur and Malayan sun bears. There are also a rare species of gibbon that can be found here.
Thung Yai Naresuan and Huai Kha Khaeng are not geared for casual visitors. Groups intending to visit it should first obtain permission from the Royal Forestry Department.
