Trang Rubber Museum
About Trang Rubber Museum
Trang Rubber Museum is a modest museum in Trang, Thailand. The museum is dedicated to telling the history of the introduction of rubber to southern Thailand. This took place in 1899. The person instrumental in introducing rubber to Thailand was Khaw Sim Bee, an ethnic Chinese also known by his Thai name Phraya Ratsadanupradit Mahison Phakdi. He became the first governor of Trang, serving from 1890 to 1901. A monument to Khaw Sim Bee now stands at the park on the eastern end of Phatthalung Road in Trang.
The Trang Rubber Museum also displays the tools used for tapping rubber, the machines for pressing the rubber sheets, and describes the correct and incorrect ways to tap rubber trees.
