Cu Chi Tunnels is an elaborate network of tunnels located in the town of Cu Chi, 25 miles to the northwest of Ho Chi Minh City. The tunnels themselves are another 9 miles (15 km) outside Cu Chi town.

There are two sets of tunnels. The one at Ben Dinh Village is the authentic tunnels built by the Vietcong during the Vietnam War. Today tourists may visit them on guided tours. The tour usually begins at a briefing room where the visitors are shown maps and charts of the tunnels. After that, the visitors are taken shown the bobby traps. Finally they are taken to the trapdoors that lead down into the tunnels. The tunnels have been widened to fit the often rotund Western tourist, but they are still rather claustrophobic.
The subterranean chambers are preserved as faithfully as they were during the war period, to give visitors an idea of how it was like. There are beds, cooking areas, and caches of ammunition.
In addition to the tunnels at Ben Dinh Village, there is another at Ben Duoc Village. This one is however purpose-built for tourism. They are better equiped than the "real thing" at Ben Dinh.
In addition to the Vietcong tunnels, Cu Chi also has other attractions such as a memorial pagoda, a shooting gallery, and a war cemetery.
How to go to Cu Chi
