Den Ngoc Son, or Temple of the Jade Mound, is a small temple sitting on a tiny islet in the middle of the Ho Hoan Kiem, north of the Thap Rua, in the middle of Hanoi, Vietnam.
To reach Den Ngoc Son, you cross the vermillion-colour The Huc bridge. Den Ngoc Son is open daily 8am-6pm, and there's admission charge. I believe the patron of this temple is Tran Hung Dao, a legendary general who defeated the Mongols at the Back Dang River in 1279. Also within the temple is a sculpture of the fabled tortoise that lend its legend to the surrounding Ho Hoan Kiem.
Den Ngoc Son is one of the central landmarks of Hanoi. It can be viewed from the lakeside, although the temple itself is often shielded from view by the surrounding trees.
