The General Post Office is one of the important colonial buildings in Ho Chi Minh City. Also known as the Buu Dien Trung Tam in Vietnamese, it was designed by Gustave Eiffel, the architect of the Eiffel Tower, and built between 1886 and 1891. The post office building is generally regarded as one of the most attractive buildings in the city.

 Looking like a wedding cake, the General Post Office is cream in color with trimming that look like icing on a cake. It features carvings of the profile of famous philosophers and scientists. Going inside, you get a feeling like you are entering a railway station. The vaulted ceiling is supported by wrought-iron pillars painted green. On the wall is a giant portrait of a smiling Ho Chi Minh, seemingly gazing down at the visitors below.
