The Hanoi History Museum was housed in the former old archaeological research institute of the EFEO (École Française d'Extrême Orient) or French School of the Far East (for an example of the EFEO's activities, see cross reference in the restoration of the Baphuon temple).
The building was originally opened in 1910. It underwent renovations in 1920, bringing it to its present appearance. Today it houses one of the best museums in Indochina, with collections ranging from Neolithic graves to stelae, ceramics, statues, drums and more.
