The Ho Chi Minh City Museum is housed in the former mansion of the French colonial governor general of Saigon. The colonnaded structure is yet another French colonial building in the city.

The museum occupies two floors of the building representing some three hundred years of the city's history. Its original name, the Revolutionary Museum, is a more accurate description of what you can expect to see displayed, which includes old maps and pictures of Saigon under the French. The museum also exhibits relics of Vietnam's natural history also with cultural objects such as ethnic wedding costumes and local currency.
The upper floor of the Ho Chi Minh City Museum showcases Vietnam's fight against colonialism. There are weapons and bombs, as well as letters written by the soldiers and political manifestos.
On display in the grounds of the museum are a Huey helicopter, a jet fighter and an American-built tank.
