Vietnam Sight Description, Travel & Heritage Sites

Vietnam is a country which many would associate with war, suffering and refugees. The truth is, the majority of Vietnamese were born after the war - to them, the Vietnam War is something foreigners speak of, but not something that they have experienced. For them, Vietnam is a beautiful country with a forward vision.

At AsiaExplorers, we are pleased to bring you closer to what is Vietnam. We will explore some of the most scenic places in this country. At the time of writing, we have only covered a small section of northern Vietnam, and we hope to organise more tours to take us to different destinations in this beautiful country.

If at any time you have additional tips to share with fellow travel enthusiasts, please add them in the Add Comment section below.

Vietnam Geography

Vietnam is a country that forms a long strip from north to south, like an elongated S, along the eastern shore of the Indochinese peninsula. The entire length from north to south is about 1650 km, from Mong Cai in the north to Ha Tien in the south. At its widest point, Vietnam is 600km across while at its narrowest, the country slims down to just 50km along the central section. There are numerous beautiful beaches all along its 2500 km coastline.

The highest mountain in Vietnam is Fan Si Pan, near the Chinese border, soaring to a height of 3160m (10370ft). Two major river deltas irrigate the country, the Song Hong or Red River in the north, and the Mekong in the south.

Vietnam Climate

Due to its length, Vietnam experiences a climate that varies from region to region. The climate in northern Vietnam is similar to that of China, as it is affected by the winds of central Asia. November to April is regarded as the winter month, and it is relatively cold and humid in northern Vietnam. Summer is from May to October, and some times there is heavy rain as well as typhoons.
