The Old East Gate of Hanoi, or Cua O Quan Chong, is the only city gate that remains from the time when Hanoi was a mediaval city. There were originally 16 gates providing access into the walled old city. The Old East Gate is located within the Old Quarters of Hanoi, at a narrow street corner between Hang Chieu and Dao Duy Tu Street.
Motor traffic using the Old East Gate of Hanoi.
Pay it a visit when you are Old Quarters of Hanoi. It gives you the feeling of entering (or exitting) a mediaval city - as long as you don't let the satellite dishes and overhanging power cables distract you.
How to go to Old East Gate
Old East Gate is located along Hang Chieu lane. From the Ho Hoan Kiem, take Hang Dao Street which is located on the north end of the lake. Continue along Hang Dao until it becomes Hang Ngang Street, and continue walking till it changes name again, to Hang Duong. You will reach the junction with Hang Chieu - be on the look out for roadsigns. There, you turn right and walk a short distance before reaching the Old East Gate in front of you.
