Phung Son Pagoda is a temple built on an ancient site in Ho Chi Minh City. Although the present temple complex dates to between 1802 and 1820, archaeological excavations have revealed that Phung Son Pagoda sits non what was once structures dating to the Funan Empire, a pre-Angkorian empire that flourished in southern Indo-china in the 4th century AD.

According to legend, there was once when plans were afoot to relocate the Phung Son Pagoda to a new site. However the white elephant carrying the temple treasures stumbled on the site. This was taken as an omen for the temple to remain where it is.

The main sanctuary of Phung Son Pagoda is located on the left side of the complex. Within it you can see various statues of Buddhas. A cloister connects it to the monk's living quarters. In the inner sanctum of Phung Son Pagoda is the statue of Boddhidharma, the monk credited with bringing Buddhism to Vietnam. The statue bears a startling resemblence to the Catholic figure of Jesus.

Phung Son Pagoda is located in District 11 of Ho Chi Minh City.
