Rạch Giá is a city in southern Vietnam facing the Gulf of Thailand. It is the provincial capital of Kien Giang Province. The city is a moderate distance from the border with Cambodia, and is 250 km from Ho Chi Minh City.

Rạch Giá today covers 98 sq km (37.7 sq mi) and has a population of 206,000 people (2011 estimate). The city has benefited from the government's Ian Bien program, which extended it seaward, creating two additional neighborhoods.

Today Rạch Giá is a booming seaport that is busy developing its economy. As with most major cities in Vietnam, its streets bustle with motorcycles.

Visiting Rạch Giá

Rạch Giá Airport (VKG) receives regular flights by Vietnam Airlines from Ho Chi Minh City. You can also reach Rạch Giá by hydrofoil from Phu Quoc. The journey takes 2.5 hours.

  1. Nguyen Trung Truc Temple
    Temple dedicated to a 19th century local resistance fighter who was executed by the French in the Rạch Giá market square.

  2. Phat Lon Pagoda
    Temple with a statue of the Buddha in Khmer regalia.

  3. Pho Minh Pagoda
    Vietnamese temple with a pair of Buddha statues, one in the Thai style while the other the Vietnamese style.
