About Sofitel Metropole Hotel

Sofitel Metropole Hotel is the most elegant - and expensive - hotel in Hanoi. It is located between Ly Thai To Street and Ngo Quyen Street.

During the days of the French administration, the Sofitel Metropole was called the Grand Hotel Metropole Palace. At that time it was the only International-class hotel in Hanoi. Among its guests were Noel Coward, Somerset Maugham (those usual suspects who also frequented the Raffles Hotel in Singapore and the E & O Hotel in Penang, Malaysia.)

By the 1980's, with the Vietnam war and difficult years, the Grand Hotel had deteriorated into a run-down structure. It was finally given a new breathe of life in the 1990's, when a new French management took over the hotel. The hotel was given a thorough face lift, restored and returned to its former glory.

Getting there

Sofitel Metropole Hotel has its front facing Ly Thai To Street. If you are coming from Ho Hoan Kiem, the Lake of the Returned Sword, you can reach it by passing through Indira Gandhi Park. Alternatively, you can take Trang Tien Street all the way till you see the Municipal Theatre in front of you, then turn left into Ly Thai To Street. Sofitel Metropole is on your left.
