Vietnam is a long, S-shaped country that covers an area of 329,556 sq km, 127242 sq miles. It is slightly larger than Italy, and shares a common border with China, Laos and Cambodia. The capital is Hanoi. The highest peak in Vietnam is the Phan Xi Pang, in Lao Cai province, at 3,143 m (10,312 ft). The Mekong delta covers a 40,000 sq km area in southern Vietnam while the Red River delta covers a much smaller 3,000 sq km area in northern Vietnam. Famous sights in Vietnam include Halong Bay, Hue and Sapa.
