Asia has many specatacular waterfalls. On this AsiaExplorers page, I want to share with you some of the waterfalls in Asia that I have explored. Please view from the thumbnails shown below. The main picture on this page loads randomly. Click on any of these to access the page.
Shooting waterfalls present its own challenges. To get the water to appear fluid, we need to use a show shutter speed. However, some times the place it too bright to ensure such a slow speed, even after using the lowest ASA and smallest aperture. To further reduce light, I would use a polarising filter. I know a neutral density filter would probably work better, but I couldn't be bothered with carrying so many filters, so the polarising filter stands in to reduce the amount of light.
The best time to shoot waterfalls is late evening, when the light is starting to fail. That's when I can use very slow speeds. It's also great to shoot waterfalls right after the rain, as the water will be stronger and the light softer. Blue sky days are not suitable for waterfall photography. The amount of light available as well as the contrast between bright and dark areas make for rather unappealing results.
